New Faculty Research Grant (NFRG)
New Faculty Research Grants are intended for the initiation of research with the potential of maturing into self-sustaining programs. Proposal evaluations will be based on merit and quality, the credentials of the principal investigator (PI), and the potential for outside funding. Research and creative activities in all fields will be considered for funding. Budgets may include one-month summer salary plus benefits, travel, and operating expenses not to exceed a total of $15,000.
Only individuals in the tenure track, but who have not received tenure are eligible to apply. University New Faculty Research Grants will be awarded once during the first two years of employment at USU.
These grants are normally used for the following purposes: (1) one month of faculty salary support (2) to employ student research assistants, (3) for travel related specifically to completion of the proposal, (4) to purchase supplies for research or other creative and scholarly activities, (5) for equipment used to complete the research project. Application procedures for a University New Faculty Research Grant are explained in the links to the right.
Work with your Department Head and the college office, as some colleges have an internal review process that may require different deadlines and multiple drafts for the proposal.
*Excludes adjunct, research, visiting, temporary, clinical professors and all tenured faculty.
