USU has designed, built, and flown more experiments in space than any other university in the world. Because of the decades-long legacy established by USU’s Space Dynamics Laboratory, NASA and Dept. of Defense officials have often referred to USU as Utah SPACE University. The unique USU/SDL space heritage includes a long series of next-generation, one-of-a kind cryogenically-cooled infrared space telescopes in which precise temperature control is critical. Dr. Batty will describe the genesis of revolutionary thermal management technologies developed for USU’s space programs and exciting applications in more down-to-earth, but potentially much larger, commercial markets, including electronics and computer cooling.
