Diane G. Alston (Biology) received the Award for Excellence in integrated pest management at the 91st Entomological Society of America’s Pacific Branch meeting in 2007.


DeeVon Bailey
(Economics) received the American Agricultural Economics Association Distinguished Extension/Outreach Program Group Award in 2007.


Carolyn Barcus
(Psychology) received the Samuel M. Turner MENTOR Award by the American Psychological Association.  The award recognizes significant involvement in minority education, nurturing, training, organizational advocacy and research.


David Bowles (Civil and Environmental Engineering) was nominated and approved via the “eminent practitioner” route as a Diplomate, Water Resources Engineer by the American Academy of Water Resources Engineers.


Edmund “Butch” Brodie, Jr.
(Biology) received the 2007 Henry S. Fitch Award for Excellence in Herpetology at the American Society of Ichthyologists and Herpetologists.


Christopher Call (Wildland Resources) received the Society for Range Management Outstanding Undergraduate Teaching Award in 2007.


Noelle Cockett (Animal, Dairy and Veterinary Sciences) received the 2007 Distinguished Service Award from the Western Section of the American Society of Animal Science.  The award is the most prestigious honor that the Western Section ASAS bestows upon its members.


John Copenhaver (Center for Persons with Disabilities) received the 2007 Martha J. Fields Award of Excellence from the National Association of State Directors of Special Education, which is given to an organization or individual who has made extraordinary contributions in helping NASDSE realize its mission and goals.


Melanie Domenech Rodriguez
(Psychology) received the Emerging Professor Award, Division 45, from the American Psychological Association for outstanding early career contributions.


Bruce Godfrey (Economics) received a 2007 National FFA Award and was selected a Western Agricultural Economics Association Distinguished Scholar.


Conly Hansen (Nutrition and Food Sciences) received a 2007 Utah Innovation Award in the area of Mechanical Devices for his company, Andigen and the innovation of the IBR Anaerobic Digester.


Doug Johnson (Wildland Resources) was the 2007 recipient of the Frank N. Meyer Medal for plant genetic resources.  Administered by the Crop Science Society of America, the award recognizes distinctive service to the National Plant Germplasm System.


Jagath Kaluarachchi (Civil and Environmental Engineering) was elected a fellow of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers in 2007.


Vijay R. Kannan (Business Administration) was a Fulbright Scholar at the Indian Institute of Management in Lucknow, India, in 2007.


Donald J. MacMahon (Nutrition and Food Sciences) received a 2007 International Dairy Foods Association research award in Dairy Foods Processing.


Lyle G. McNeal (Animal, Dairy and Veterinary Sciences) was recipient of the 2007 Carnegie Teaching Award, which salutes the most outstanding undergraduate instructors in the country--those who excel in teaching and positively influence the lives and careers of students.


Alma P. Moser (Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering) was elected a fellow of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers in 2007.


Kathy Piercy (Family, Consumer and Human Development) was elected a fellow of the Gerontological Society of America in 2007.


Edward Reeve
(Engineering and Technology Education) was a Fulbright Senior Specialist at Thailand’s King Mongkut Institute of Technology. The FSS Program provides short-term academic opportunities to prominent U.S. faculty to support curricular and faculty development and institutional planning at post secondary academic institutions around the world.


Wei Ren (Electrical and Computer Engineering) received a 2007 National Science Foundation Early Career Award, which is the NSF’s most prestigious award in support of the early career-development activities of those teacher-scholars who most effectively integrate research and education within the context of the mission of their organization.


Jack Schmidt (Watershed Sciences) was named the National Park Service Cooperative Ecosystem Studies Unit Researcher of the Year in 2007.


Kim Sullivan (Biology) received honorary membership of the Cooper Ornithological Society board of directors, which is conferred on members who have rendered outstanding service to the Society.

(Mathematics & Statistics) was elected a fellow of the International Statistics Institute in 2007.

 

Elaine Thatcher (Mountain West Center for Regional Studies) received the Benjamin A. Botkin Prize, given every year to recognize outstanding achievement in public folklore, from the American Folklore Society in 2007.

 

Helen Van Miegroet (Watershed Sciences) received a citation of excellence from the Soil Science Society of America in 2007.


Wynn Walker (Biological and Irrigation Engineering) received the Royce J. Tipton Award, which recognizes contributions to the advancement of irrigation and drainage engineering.  Walker was also elected a fellow in the American Society of Civil Engineers.


Ruby Ward (Economics) was named by the U.S. Small Business Administration as the Home-Based Business Champion of the Year in 2007.  She also received the American Agricultural Economics Association Distinguished Extension/Outreach Program Award in 2007.


Bart Weimer (Nutrition & Food Sciences) received a new U.S. patent, “Real Time Detection of Antigens (CIP)” (Microbe Detection).


Karl R. White
(Psychology) received the 2007 American Speech, Language and Hearing Association’s Distinguished Service Award for his work with screening infants for hearing loss.


Tom Wilkerson (Physics) received the 2007 Utah Governor’s Medal for Science and Technology, which provides recognition to those individuals who have given distinguished service to the State of Utah in the fields of science and technology.


Wayne Wurtsbaugh (Watershed Sciences) was elected to the governing board of the American Society of Limnology and Oceanography in 2007.


Wenbin Yu
(Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering) received the 2007 Ferdinand P. Beer and E. Russell Johnston, Jr. Outstanding New Mechanics Educator Award, which is given annually to up to three individuals who have shown a strong commitment to mechanics education.
