Undergraduate Research Fellows

The URF program provides an opportunity for Utah State University students to be directly involved in research early in their careers.

URFs are given a $1,000 scholarship each year, as well as access to additional supports and programming. Fellows find and work with faculty mentors on research projects aligned with their interests, are frequently invited to attend or present at research conferences, and have access to research funding to support their projects and presentations.

The fellowship represents the best and brightest students of USU and holds multiple socials and workshops each year to provide students a chance to interact with their peers, learn about the research conducted by others, and develop academic and professional skill sets associated with strong researchers.

The college experience you’ve been looking for.

Apply next spring to become an Undergraduate Research Fellow starting in Fall semester! If you are an incoming freshman or sophomore, or have at least six more semesters until graduation, this opportunity could be for you.

Selection of fellows is determined by prior academic performance, potential to succeed as a researcher, and dedication to add to the cohort through personal merit and involvement. A 3.5+ GPA is preferred, but exceptions can be made for applicants that are otherwise phenomenal.

Applications for the Undergraduate Research Fellowship will be open on March 15. Early priority applications are due by 11:59pm MST on April 15, with guaranteed notification before May 1; applications will be accepted until 11:59pm MST on June 15 for all others.
