Undergraduate Research Faculty Mentor of the Year

Elizabeth Vargis is an associate professor in the Department of Biological Engineering. Dr. Vargis has the largest number of undergraduates with Utah State Undergraduate Research and Creative Opportunities awards.

She has received an NIH Research Enhancement Award for 400 thousand dollars to support undergraduate researchers in her lab.

Dr. Vargis also serves as the faculty advisor for the Society of Women Engineers. 
In her 8 ½ years at Utah State she has mentored 49 undergraduate researchers. 
Of these, 18 pursued graduate school and eight entered medical school.
