The Laboratory Animal Research Center is staffed by trained personnel. When an investigator has a particular request for utilizing the LARC and its equipment, they should first contact the supervisor, located in LARC 242 (Ext. 7-1886). The investigator may be assured that every effort will be made to meet their requests. However, the supervisor requires a reasonable period of time and adequate information in order to coordinate the LARC and its equipment.

  • Procurement of laboratory animals
  • Procurement of feed, bedding, cages, animal care, equipment and supplies
  • Care and husbandry of animals housed within the Center
  • Cleaning, washing and sanitation of cages and equipment
  • Instruction in proper methods of animal handling, restraint and experimental manipulation
  • Laboratory animal caretaker training
  • Euthanasia of animals
  • Carass disposal (non-radioactive only) through the Veterinary Diagnostics Lab
  • Animal health and disease diagnosis in cooperation with the Veterinary Science Department
  • Animal records and information
  • Consolation

The LARC is open to investigators daily, Monday through Friday (except holidays) from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Special arrangements may be made for access to the building during evening, weekends or holidays.
