Carlos Andres Gutierrez Gutierrez came to USU and immediately immersed himself in education. An avid reader, Carlos loves to continue learning in his spare time. His interest in political science and Spanish has led to passions in sports, current events, music, poetry, and cooking. These interests have bled over into his research as well.

Under the advisement of his mentor Dr. J.P. Spicer-Escalante, Carlos focuses on researching the cultural interactions between western media and Hispanic culture. His projects have ranged from studying the mafia in media, to learning about how soccer affects culture.

His commitment to interdisciplinary, diverse research and hard work has singled him out and won him a nomination for the USU Undergraduate Researcher of the Year Award in 2019. He plans to continue his success after graduation through a Master’s degree.
