Dennis Hassan is Associate Artistic Director of the Lyric Repertory Company and Professor of Scene Design at Utah State University. He has over 30 years of experience in theatrical design and has worked on over 250 productions from Hawaii to Maine. His design specialties include scenery, costumes, puppets, projections, scenic painting, events and immersive experiences. Professor Hassan was recently accepted into the competitive Pre-workshop and National Puppet Conference at the Eugene O’Neil Center for Theatre. He was awarded a United States Institute of Theatre Technology (USITT) Fellowship to participate in the Summer Intensive Design Workshop at the Kennedy Center with Ming Cho Lee and Constance Hoffman, and two of his designs have been included in USA Exhibits at the Prague Quadrennial: Dangerous Liaisons and Jacques Brel is Alive and Well, and Living in Paris. He has twice programmed the scenic design presentations for the annual USITT, where he has served as the Vice Commissioner of New Technology, Vice Commissioner of Computers, and Vice Commissioner over Design and Projects for the Scenic Design Commission and adjudicated the Young Designer’s Forums ten times. He has also adjudicated many student designers through the American College Theatre Federation (ACTF).
