Dr. Madden is a professor in the Emma Eccles Jones College of Education and Human Service’s Behavioral Analysis Program, and specializes in behavioral economics. His research examines decision making, specifically impulsivity and delayed gratification. These research lines have been supported by over 4.5 million dollars in grants from the National Institute on Drug Abuse, the National Institute for Child Health and Development, and the U.S. Department of Agriculture.

Madden has published more than 100 peer-reviewed papers and book chapters that have been cited more than 8,000 times. From 2011 until 2015, he served as the editor-in-chief of the prestigious Journal of the Experimental Analysis of Behavior, after previously serving as associate editor for six years. In 2013, he served as editor-in-chief of the two-volume APA Handbook of Behavior Analysis, and is nearing completion of a textbook titled An Introduction to Behavior Analysis.

Madden previously received awards including the ING Excellence in Teaching Award in 2009 and USU’s Faculty Researcher of the Year in 2014.
