Aser Abbas is both a Geotechnical and Structural Civil Engineer, with a strong academic background and professional experience in industry. He holds a B.Sc. in Civil Engineering and an M.Sc. in Structural Engineering from Mansoura University, Egypt, and another M.Sc. in Systems and Materiel Engineering (with a focus on Geotechnical Foundation Engineering) from Alabama A&M University, US. Currently, Aser is a Ph.D. candidate in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at Utah State University, specializing in Geotechnical Engineering. Aser's research interests focus on two main areas: in-situ dynamic site characterization of soils and rocks, primarily for earthquake engineering, and soil-pile interaction. His research contributions resulted in the publication of twelve peer-reviewed journal articles and seven technical reports. Aser’s work extends beyond academic research to encompass involvement in high-profile projects. This includes contributing to the NIST-sponsored forensic soil investigation of the Champlain Towers South collapse in Florida and the dynamic site characterization of sensitive structures like nuclear power plants within and beyond the US. Additionally, he played a key role in developing the software used by the Alabama Department of Transportation for designing their deep foundations. Aser has also worked for six years as a practicing structural engineer in Egypt.
