Idowu Atoloye

College Agriculture and Applied Sciences

Plants, Soils, and Climate

Born and raised in Lagos, Nigeria, Idowu has developed a keen interest in the area of agricultural sustainability. Idowu is a Presidential Doctoral Research Fellow (PDRF) studying in the Plants, Soils and Climate department, and his research focuses on understanding how compost application impacts soil biological and chemical properties in the short- and long-term in dryland organic wheat soils.

He is interested in the role of organic phosphorus forms and turnover in phosphorus bioavailability in dryland organic wheat systems. He is also studying compost effect on surface and subsurface soil organic carbon fractions. Idowu received a B.Agric. and M.Phil. in Soil Science from the Obafemi Awolowo University, Nigeria. His master’s degree research was recognized for the International Plant and Nutrition Institute Scholars award. He later received the International Humic Substance Society Training Grant for research work at the University of Sao Paulo, Sao Carlos, Brazil.

He is passionate about helping local farmers in adopting sustainable practices that conserve or improve soil health, increase farm productivity and their capacity to adapt to climate change based on the capabilities and constraints of soil type characteristics. He has authored/co-authored 6 peer-reviewed publications. Mr. Atoloye provides leadership at the University and the local community.
