Apoorva Chauhan is a PhD candidate in the Department of Computer Science (CS) at USU. She has been a member of Dr. Amanda Lee Hughes’ research lab since 2013 and her research interests include Human Computer Interaction (HCI), Computer-Supported Cooperative Work (CSCW), and Mobile Technologies. She primarily conducts research in the area of Crisis Informatics, a field of study that examines the use of information and communication technologies around crisis events. Specifically, Chauhan’s research focuses on the use of social media around natural crisis events and ways to improve communication through social media. Her research has resulted in five conference papers (one at the top conference in her field), four posters, and a best student paper nomination. Chauhan has also explored the use of mobile technologies in education, which includes a collaboration with Dr. Breanne Litts on two book chapters for an upcoming handbook. Chauhan also enjoys teaching. She taught an undergraduate C++ course in Spring 2017, and was a teaching assistant for multiple graduate and undergraduate courses in the USU CS department. Chauhan received her B.E. in Computer Science & Engineering from Lakshmi Narain College of Technology in 2012, and her M.S. in CS from USU in 2014.
