Irene Garousi-Nejad is currently a Ph.D. candidate in Civil and Environmental Engineering at Utah State University, working with Dr. David Tarboton’s research group at the Utah Water Research Laboratory. She obtained her master’s degree in Water Resources Engineering from the University ofTehran in 2015. Her research is centered on advancing hydrological modeling to improve flood and water supply forecasting in key western U.S. basins, such as the Great Salt Lake and Colorado River basins. Her research’s overarching goal is to incorporate new science, data, and technology to model the environmental responses at local and global scales. She has published nine peer-reviewed articles related to her research work in the last seven years. She has experience working with physically-based hydrological modeling on high-performance computing platforms, analyzing satellite imagery, and developing geospatial models using Geographical Information Systems. She was the Eva Nieminski Honorary Graduate Scholarship recipient provided by the American Water Work Association Intermountain Section. She is currently a member of the American Geophysical Union HydrologySection Student Subcommittee, where she volunteers in professional development and outreach programs in the hydrology community. She has recently been selected as the Doctoral Student Researcher of the Year for the College of Engineering.
