Max Roberts grew up in Ventura, California and received his Bachelor’s degree in sociology at California State University Channel Islands. He moved toLogan in 2015 to pursue a graduate education in sociology at Utah State University. Max is currently a sociology PhD candidate with emphases in demography, epidemiology, public health, and statistics. Max’s research focuses on life expectancy disparities, quantifying the contribution of specific causes of death to longevity gaps across age, sex, race, ethnicity, and educational attainment. He has presented his research at premier national conferences in his discipline including the Population Association of America, and the American Public Health Association. His research has been published in high-impact journals including BMC Public Health and Scientific Reports, and has been featured in national media outlets including NewYork Magazine and The Washington Post. Under the advisement of Dr. Eric Reither, Max has honed his skills as a quantitative social scientist and has developed into a promising young researcher. He hopes to one day work with government or private organizations to continue to conduct population health research that will inform and guide public health policy. In his free time, Max enjoys snowboarding, mountain biking, camping, and brewing beer at home.
