Belize Lane

Dr. Belize Lane is an Associate Professor and Water Program Head in Civil and Environmental Engineering and a researcher at the Utah Water Research Laboratory since 2017. Her research spans the areas of physical hydrology, fluvial geomorphology and water management, including: flooding, post-fire hazards, ecohydraulics, river restoration and environmental water management. Her research group, the Water, Environment, Terrain (WET) Lab, performs applied interdisciplinary research using a combination of field studies, machine learning, numerical modeling, geospatial and time series analysis. She has active research in Utah, California, Colorado, Texas and Switzerland. To facilitate these efforts, she has earned, with collaborators, over $18 million in funding since joining USU from federal and state agencies including the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, National Science Foundation, and U.S. Army Corps Environmental Research and Development Center. Dr. Lane involves students, from undergraduates to post-graduates, in every aspect of her research. Dr. Lane completed her PhD in Hydrologic Sciences from the University of California at Davis in 2017. She received the Early Career Award for Applied Research from the Universities Council on Water Resources in 2022.
