Candi Carter Olson

Candi Carter Olson is an associate professor at Utah State University. Her research interests include newswomen’s history and social media’s subaltern voices. She won the AEJMC Rising Scholar Research Award, an AAUW American Fellowship, an American Journalism Rising Scholar award, anAmerican Journalism Historians Association Joseph McKerns Research Grant, and a Mountain West Center faculty research grant. She recently published the 2020 co-edited volume, Testing Tolerance: Addressing Controversy in the Journalism and Mass Media Classroom, which is a part ofAEJMC’s Master Class series. She also co-edited the 2018 volume Underserved Communities and Digital Discourse: Getting Voices Heard. She has published in Journalism and Mass Communication Quarterly, the Journal of Communication Inquiry, Journalism History, American Journalism, FeministMedia Studies, The Journal of Public Interest Communications, and Pennsylvania History. Carter Olson was an invited panelist for an event celebrating the 100th anniversary of the 19th Amendment at the Robert J. Dole Institute for Politics, and she has been a keynote speaker for events at the HeinzHistory Center, Utah Valley University, and the University of Pittsburgh. She has a Ph.D. in Communication Studies with a certificate in the study of women, gender, and sexuality from the University of Pittsburgh.
