Mike Daines is a design educator and practitioner whose research focuses on the intersection of experimental and client-based design methodologies.His background includes over 15 years of practice for clients in the arts,entertainment, fashion and sports including: MTV, Adidas, Nike, Everlane, NBC, Columbia Pictures and the Science Channel. Mike is currently a partner and acting creative director at the Afton Klein Group, a hybrid design/architecture consultancy based in Salt Lake City. Mike’s work has been exhibited widely from New York to Los Angeles and has been recognized by the American Institute of Graphic Arts (AIGA), the Chicago Society of Typographic Arts (STA), and the University and College Designers Association (UCDA). Previous to his current position at USU, Mike taught design at Otis College of Art and Design in Los Angeles, the College for Creative Studies in Detroit and the University of Detroit Mercy, School of Architecture. He is also an active lecturer, having presented at design schools across the U.S. including Southern Illinois University, Cranbrook Academy of Art, and Western Michigan University. Mike possesses an MFA in design from Cranbrook Academy of Art, and a BFA in graphic design from Utah State University.
