Plants, Soils & Climate
Exemplary research takes time, commitment and passion. Dr. Shih-Yu (Simon) Wang demonstrates all three of these characteristics while exploring and introducing new facets of climate prediction. With a Ph.D. in meteorology from Iowa State University and master’s and bachelor’s degrees in atmospheric sciences from the National Central University in Taiwan, Simon brings unique insights to his position as an associate professor in the Department of Plants, Soils and Climate, and to discovering the causes of extreme events such as the California drought, Texas floods and Southeast Asian rainstorms.
He has published extensively on important climate issues as the lead or co-author of more than 50 journal articles, three books and a fourth in press, and has given more than 50 presentations at conferences. He also makes outstanding efforts to connect the public with important climate science.
