Makenzy has been a graduate research assistant for the Child CareAccess Means Parents in School (CCAMPIS) grant for several years, working under the mentorship of Dr. Lisa Boyce. Her work with CCAMPIS has involved assessing the needs of child care providers and offering support through coaching, curriculum development, and curriculum evaluation. Her research interests focus on cognitive and language development in early childhood, parent behavioral impacts on development, and culturally grounded intervention.
