2024 Master's Student Researcher of the Year Award Nominee

College of Humanities and Social Sciences

Communication Studies and Philosophy Department

After spending 5 years in the non-profit sector working for The Family Place Logan, and Make-A-Wish Utah, MaKayla Lindsay returned to school Fall 2022 to earn her master’s degree in communication studies. During the last year and a half, MaKayla has conducted and presented research at two conferences, with two more scheduled for later this year, and has co-authored an article which is being considered for publication. In her own research and on projects with professors, she works with multiple research methods including quantitative, qualitative, and rhetorical approaches. MaKayla’s research projects investigate the impacts of political rhetoric on Black and Indigenous communities. Finally, MaKayla’s master’s thesis focuses on the rhetoric surrounding the January 6th insurrection and the arguments used in the Select Committee’s public-facing reports. Working alone and with various notable scholars in Communication Studies, MaKayla has enjoyed her research and is excited to continue making meaningful contributions to the field.
