Watershed Sciences

A native of Provo, Utah, Bruce Call has cultivated a diverse range of interests pertaining to human and physical geography since an early age. Born into an era of ever increasing global interconnectivity, Bruce’s fascination with the diversity and complexity of humanity and the physiographic template which it occupies culminated in graduating with a Bachelor of Arts degree from Brigham Young University in Middle Eastern Studies/Arabic and Geography. After working for a few years with community development organizations in Salt Lake City, Utah and Amman, Jordan, Bruce decided to pursue graduate studies in hydrology and geomorphology. This decision was inspired by the increasing importance of fresh water resources for growing human populations and a need to understand the environmental and social consequences stemming from the ever-greater demands placed upon such resources around the world. Bruce is currently a graduate research assistant to Dr. Patrick Belmont in the Department of Watershed Sciences at Utah State University. The focus of his current research agenda is the development of a theoretical computer model to aid investigation of non-linear changes in the frequency and magnitude of overbank floods in rivers systems undergoing shifts in hydrology and channel flood conveyance.
