Jacqueline Keating is a Master’s student working with Dr. Richard Krannich and funded by a Utah State University X-STEM grant for integrating the social and natural sciences. Since 2013 she has worked with the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service in Kodiak, Alaska. Her thesis research is a combination of qualitative stakeholder interviews and quantitative survey research on human-bear interaction in recreation to inform the Kodiak National Wildlife Refuge’s Public Use Management Plan. She is also working with polar bear management in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge out of Kaktovik, Alaska, to help integrate social science methods in working with Alaska Natives and bear safety. When not living with bears in Alaska to study human attitudes towards wildlife, Jacqueline conducts human dimensions of wildlife research for the Utah Division of Wildlife and enjoys leading trips for the USU Outdoor Program and cross country skiing.
