Biological Engineering

Dr. Huang joined USU in 2016 as an Assistant Professor in Biological Engineering. He also holds an adjunct faculty position at Texas Medical Center.

He obtained his BS in chemistry at Beijing University (China), followed by graduate study at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. At Madison, he received MS in both Pharmaceutics and Materials Science, plus a PhD in Materials Science, minoring in Statistics, followed by a short postdoc in Biomedical Engineering. From 2013-2015, he did another postdoc study as a Research Associate at Texas Medical Center, working on nano-medicines.

Before joining USU, he was an Assistant Professor in Biomedical Engineering at the University of South Dakota for ten months. Dr. Huang’s current lab works on Brain Micro-engineering, a multidisciplinary program that engineers brain-specific cells and tissues using nanomaterials and micro-devices. This program, built upon nano/microfabrication and tissue/cellular material engineering, aims for applications in both fundamental and translational perspectives of neural engineering, anti-cancer research, and regenerative medicine.

Dr. Huang has published dozens of papers at top-tier journals, including Nature Biotechnology, ACS Nano, Lab on a Chip, etc. Dr. Huang primarily teaches biomaterials and medical micro-fabrication for undergraduate students to obtain fundamental knowledge and hands-on laboratory training in biomedical engineering fields.
