Carsten Meier

Carsten Meier is known for his large-format renderings of urban and natural landscapes. His work has been exhibited in the United States and Europe and published in his monograph, Public Parking. Meier originally came to the States on a Fulbright scholarship, and, following the completion of his studies at the University of Applied Sciences in Dortmund, returned to Ohio University to earn his MFA in Photography. He began his teaching career at the Volkshochschule (VHS) Dortmund and was an Assistant Professor at the University of Miami before joining the Department of Art + Design at Utah State University in 2011. Since his arrival at USU, Meier has led two summer study-abroad programs and mentored four Undergraduate Research and Creative Opportunities (URCO) grant recipients. His students have received national and international recognition for their work, including a finalist in the Photographer’sFORUM 2015 annual college contest. Meier has actively collaborated with faculty in the Quinney College of Natural Resources and is part of a team that was awarded a National Geographic grant in 2014. His current project, a typology of concrete arch dams, will be the subject of Meier’s second monograph, due for international publication in fall 2015.
