Amy Odum is a Professor in the Department of Psychology. She completed her Ph.D. in Psychology, specializing in Behavior Analysis, at West Virginia University. Her research interests are in basic behavioral phenomena, such as response persistence and sensitivity to delayed outcomes.
Dr. Odum’s research has been funded by the National Institutes of Health. She has been editor-in-chief of the flagship journal of her field, the Journal of the Experimental Analysis of Behavior.
Dr. Odum enjoys bringing the thrill of research to undergraduates. She teaches Advanced Behavior Analysis, in which students learn first-hand how to conduct ground-breaking research and report the results. She also mentors undergraduate students in her laboratory, hosting on average 6 students per semester for the past 17 years. She has mentored a substantial number of students in honors theses and Undergraduate Research and Creative Opportunity (URCO) Grants.
Ten of her published peer-reviewed manuscripts, as well as over 45 conference presentations, include undergraduate co-authors. Dr. Odum participates in the Native American STEM Mentorship Program, learning about Native American culture and history as she mentors students from USU Blanding in the research process. Her mentees have won numerous honors, including Undergraduate Researcher of the Year for USU.
