Undergraduate Research Faculty Mentor of the Year

Spencer Bradshaw is an Assistant Professor in the Marriage and Family Therapy program with an impressive track record of undergraduate research mentorship. He conducts neuropsychology research on individual and family recovery from Alcohol Use Disorder and Post Traumatic Stress. His track record of effective mentorship continued in 2022 as he mentored 10 students in his lab. Four of these students completed a major-related or course-required practicum/project with Dr. Bradshaw. The other students worked with Dr. Bradshaw in unpaid research internships. Perhaps most impressive is the genuine care Dr. Bradshaw has for his mentees including their personal wellbeing, learning experience and future success. Students’ feedback highlights a belonging culture in which they have been positively impacted and felt personally cared about. Some have said he played a vital role in their education and future directions. In addition to caring about his mentees he also helps them be productive and find scholarly success. In 2022, one of his undergraduate mentees presented two posters at a national conference – first and second authorship – and she is co-authoring manuscripts from these projects toward scholarly publication. During his career Dr. Bradshaw has mentored 17 poster authorships and 5 peer reviewed journal article authorships with undergraduate researchers.
