Dr. Courtney Flint is a Professor of Natural Resource Social Science in the Department of Environment & Society. Her research focuses on how people and communities respond to changing landscapes and social and natural resource conditions. In recent years and with support from USU students, she has conducted watershed research and wellbeing assessments in Utah and the Intermountain West. She prioritizes providing sound data to support local and regional decisions on land use, natural resource management, and local and regional wellbeing. Dr. Flint has mentored 57 undergraduate students or recent graduates in her 10 years at USU. Currently, there are six undergraduate students and two recent graduates on her research team. Students and staff working with her are all in paid research assistant or technician positions and provide leadership roles leading to reports for stakeholders and peer-reviewed publications. Dr. Flint currently directs the Utah Wellbeing Project and is a senior collaborator on two large NSF-funded projects. I-GUIDE applies geospatial technology to studying hydroclimatic extremes and aging dam vulnerability, and the Transformation Network focuses on collective actions for resilience in the Intermountain West. She also serves as Assistant Director the Community and Natural Resources Institute (CANRI) at USU.
