Ryan Berke is an Associate Professor of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering. He runs a large lab in which undergraduate research plays a strong role in recruiting and training top graduate students. Since 2015, he has advised 75 undergraduates who have collectively contributed to over 100 scholarly papers,technical presentations, and poster sessions. Each student is responsible for their own research project which potentially serves as the basis of a scientific journal publication, MS thesis, and/or chapter of a PhD dissertation. Among his students that have graduated, at least half have gone on to earn advanced degrees and become leaders in their fields.Dr. Berke is also the Director of USU’s Engineering Undergraduate Research Scholars (EURS) Program.Under his leadership, the program has doubled in size by accepting students twice per year, and the rate of women and nonbinary students has also doubled from 15% to 31%. He has also negotiated pay raises for program participants, additional matching funds to present at conferences, and a first-semester tuition waiver for participants who stay for graduate school. Dr. Berke also represents the College of Engineering on USU’s Undergraduate Research Advisory Board, and is the Goldwater Scholarship Faculty Mentor.
