Mirella Meyer-Ficca received her MS in biology from the University of Kaiserslautern, Germany, and her PhD in human genetics and virology from the Eberhard-Karls-University of Tübingen, Germany. After postdoctoral training in cancer biology and toxicology (2002-2005, University of Arizona) and a position as senior research investigator in male reproduction at the University of Pennsylvania (2005-2013), Dr. Meyer-Ficca joined Utah State University in 2013 as research assistant professor in the Department of Animal, Dairy and Veterinary Sciences and in the School of Veterinary Medicine. In 2020, she moved to tenure-track and was promoted to associate professor with tenure in 2022. Dr. Meyer-Ficca’s research interest is in studying epigenetic information in sperm, with particular focus on consequences of diet and advanced age for sperm epigenetic. Currently, her lab studies the role of vitamin B3 in aging, fertility, sperm quality & ultimately offspring health. As mentor, she strives to provide students opportunities to actively participate in ongoing research projects and to discover their own potential for research centered careers. To achieve that, she actively integrates student researchers in ongoing projects, enables students to present their results at local, national, and international scientific conferences, and provides students with the opportunity to co-author scientific publications.
