Ty Wilson is a senior majoring in plant science with an emphasis in research and a minor in anthropology. He has worked in Dr. Amita Kaundal's lab as a research assistant for nearly three years, during which time he co-authored two peer-reviewed research papers and engaged in a multitude of undergraduate research opportunities and events. He was awarded the URCO grant for his research discovery of microbes from native desert plants, which provides growth promotion and drought resistance to plants. He has also presented at the Utah Conference on Undergraduate Research (UCUR) and the National Conference on Undergraduate Research (NCUR). Ty has presented at nearly every fall and spring Research Symposium at Utah State since the start of his research career in 2022. He has presented at several extension-focused events as well, including the CWEL field day and the 2024 Fall Research Fair. He also presented his drought-focused research to the Utah Legislature at Research on Capitol Hill last year and again this year (https://caas.usu.edu/news/ty-wilson-roch). Outside of research, Ty is busy preparing events as the Vice President for the Plant Science Club and polishing his singing as a member of USU's acapella group, Aggiepella.
