The Erevna Ensemble, USU’s Caine Undergraduate Research Ensemble

The Caine Undergraduate Research Ensemble is a pilot project designed to explore the potential of a group of undergraduate musicians, working with world-class mentors, to conduct undergraduate research in the arts. The members of the ensemble change each year, with some overlap, creating an ongoing project which continually seeks to connect research and the arts.

The ensemble rehearses together between 10-12 hours per week, mastering their craft and discussing opportunities and methods to demonstrate the relevance of this art form on campus and in the community. They receive coaching from professional chamber musicians, give outreach concerts and master classes at public high schools and after-school programs, and they perform on and off campus.

The ensemble receives regular instruction from the Fry Street Quartet, USU’s string quartet in residence, to help them to improve their performing skills and train them to speak to audiences of various ages about music in a way that is both educational and engaging.
