John D. Morrey, Ph.D., is a Research Professor of Virology in the Animal, Dairy, and Veterinary Sciences Department. He is also the Director of the USU’s Institute for Antiviral Research (IAR) and an Integrated Research Focus Director with the National Institutes of Health Rocky Mountain Regional Centers of Excellence. The IAR employs a team of researchers including 11 Ph.D.’s, 11 full-time technicians, 2 support staff, and 20 students, and has an annual budget of $3.8M in research mostly from the National Institutes of Health. Data from this research team has recently been submitted by companies to the FDA for the development of three influenza drugs and one West Nile virus drug. Dr. Morrey has over 80 peer-reviewed publications, in addition to book chapters, journal review articles, and a book, most of which involve the use of laboratory animals to discover therapies for viral diseases of animals and humans.
