Senior Geologist and Geophysicist

Christian Hardwick

Biography

Christian is a Senior Geophysicist, Geologist, and the Geothermal Section Manager at the Utah Geological Survey. He brings over 15 years of global expertise to the intersection of energy innovation and geologic risk. In addition to leading the state’s geothermal program, he provides multidisciplinary geophysical support across the agency.

Christian specializes in applied geophysical methods, including gravity, electromagnetics, and thermal fields. By integrating complex data with subsurface geology, his work is vital for mapping both Utah's rich energy potential and its inherent geologic hazards. Rather than simply collecting as much information as possible, Christian advocates for targeted, high-quality science. He notes that while abundant data is useful, acquiring the right data is what ultimately allows us to understand our natural resources and manage them responsibly.
