Research Description

The LEGASYS Lab (QANR, ENVS), investigates relationships among people, land use, and environmental change using archaeological and environmental science. Student researchers will work with Dr. Elise Laugier and will focus primarily on Fourier-transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy, an analytical technique used to characterize the mineral and organic composition of soils, sediments, and other materials during the Fall 2026 and the 2026–27 academic year. Students will gain hands-on experience conducting scientific research, including sample preparation, laboratory analysis, data collection, quality control, and interpretation.

Qualifications and Requirements

Students from all majors are encouraged to apply, although those with an interest in or experience with laboratory-based research may be particularly well suited to these projects.
