Web Development and Data Analysis

Dr. Hamid Karimi is looking for engaged and experienced undergraduate computer science students to join him in the Data Science and Applications Lab. 

The overarching goal of the Data Science and Applications (DSA) lab at Utah State University is to devise novel, efficient, and practical solutions to enhance the social impact of data science. 

The lab focuses on multiple research areas, including Social Media Mining, Educational Data Mining, and Cross-Disciplinary Applications of Data Science in Science and Engineering fields. Guided by a commitment to innovation and excellence, the Data Science and Applications Lab at USU strives to shape the future of data science and its impact on society.

General Requirements:

  • A background in computer science or related fields, such as information technology.
  • A solid foundation in mathematics, including linear algebra, statistics, and calculus.
  • Proficiency in programming, particularly in Python, and familiarity with relevant data analytics packages, such as pandas, NumPy, scikit-learn, PyTorch, TensorFlow, etc.

Specific Requirements:

  • Proficient in Python
  • Sufficient background in web application development (front end and/or back end)
  • Prior experience in data mining and/or machine learning (specially text mining)

The accepted undergraduate students will receive a negotiated hourly payment with increase with good performance.
