Undergraduate Research Mentoring Workshops
Our rotation of mentor workshops, brownbags, and seminars are offered every semester. Unless otherwise noted, they are open to all interested in the practice of mentoring undergraduates in research and creative works, including faculty, staff, graduate students, and senior undergraduate researchers in leadership roles within their lab/field/project.
Research Mentor Brownbag Series
Brownbags are informal lunchtime gatherings open to all faculty, research staff, and graduate students engaged in undergraduate research mentoring with the aim of building a community of practice around improving the mentored research experience for our students here at USU. All brownbags will be held via Zoom, with the link sent out when you RSVP below. Participants are welcome to enjoy their lunches during these sessions.
March 14, 12:00 pm-1:30 pm
- As we head into symposium and conference season, how ready are our students to communicate their research?
- What questions should we be asking, and what resources should we be relying on to help them get the most out of the experience of a conference or symposium?
- What particular challenges exist for students who are differently abled, for whom English is not a primary language, or who come from marginalized populations, and how can we help them feel successful and not dolefully stressed out?
Research Mentoring Workshops
Workshops are more formal trainings led by a variety of experts on research mentoring, guiding mentor development through evidence-based practices. Participation in workshops can be added to your teaching and mentoring professional dossier.
