What Innovations Could Lower Costs and Improve Access to Dental Care?

Oral health reflects overall health and affects general well being. According to a survey conducted by the American Dental Association (ADA), one in five low income adults in the US says their oral health is in poor condition and 39 percent say life is “less satisfying due to the condition of [their] mouth and teeth.” The same report found 29 percent of low income adults feel the appearance of their teeth affects their ability to interview for jobs. About 60 percent of those who had not visited the dentist within the last year cited high prices as the main reason for their lack of attendance. This research in focus piece explores innovative solutions that could increase access to dental care while lowering costs.
