Space Dynamics Laboratory (SDL) Scholarships
The Space Dynamics Laboratory (SDL) is a nonprofit University Affiliated Research Center owned by Utah State University. For over six decades, SDL has provided world-class sensor systems, satellites, and supporting technologies to address the nation’s biggest challenges.
SDL values education and enhances the development of future scientists and engineers through its scholarship opportunities. All recipients are selected by the Scholarship Committee, which includes representatives from the Office of Research, SDL, and various USU colleges.
The SDL Student Scholarship is a $1,000, one-year scholarship that is awarded to two (within that field) students who are studying engineering or computer science. Recipients will be awarded in June for the following academic year.
Applicants shall be a full-time rising undergraduate freshman or sophomore USU student (12 or more credit hours per semester) with a 3.0 GPA or higher who is majoring or minoring in Electrical and Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering, or who is ready to apply to the professional program.
Applicants must be a U.S. citizen (required for potential internship and/or student employment at SDL), demonstrate strong academic achievement, show excellence in the quality of their work assignments and performance, have a financial need, write a brief statement explaining how they are in their field, and provide two letters of recommendation.
The letters of recommendation process are as follows:
- In the application form, candidates will enter the name and email address of a faculty member, post-doctoral researcher, graduate student, or supervisor/manager who will provide a letter of recommendation.
- Students should confirm that their recommender is willing and able to submit a letter by the application deadline.
- After the student submits their application, the recommender will automatically receive an email with instructions for uploading the letter.
- The letter should include the following:
- Examples of the student’s performance
- Evidence of the student’s potential
- Any factors that distinguish the candidate from their peers
