Student Spotlight: Hyrum Tennant

Hyrum got involved in research at the end of his senior year of High School when he became a research assistant for a professor on campus.  

Hyrum conducts his research both at the water lab and the Logan River. He dyes streams various colors to identify their flow and the minerals being carried in the water.  

Hyrum said environmental engineers are worried about air quality, water quality, etc. He said the nice thing about research is, “you understand why what you’re learning in the clasroom is important in the first place and how it ties into the real world.” 

Hyrum said being a research fellow is beneficial because it’s given him opportunities to talk to people and present his research. Hyrum said he also likes the chance to talk to researchers in other disciplines and see what research they’re doing and how it may apply to his research.
