Student Spotlight: Paul Consalvo

College of Engineering

Paul Consalvo is an Engineering major at Utah State. Consalvo said internships are usually a one-time deal where you work for a couple months to get some experience but with undergraduate research you can continue adapting your project. “Research really applies to a professional setting in the same way an internship does,” he said.

He said research gives him an opportunity to apply what he’s learned in the classroom.

For one of his research projects he retrofitted some pipes on the University’s residential buildings and analyzed
the flow rates of the water moving through the pipes. They used that information to learn more about the way water is being used and specifically how dual-flush toilets affect water usage. Consalvo was able to present his research at Ignite, USU’s student speaking event. You can watch his talk on YouTube.
