Training
At Utah State University, we take safety seriously. Whether you’re a faculty member, staff, or student, our trainings help ensure that you’re well-prepared. Our in-person and online courses cover a range of topics, from lab safety to compliance with local, state, and federal regulations. If you are unsure where to start, take the training survey. - Complete a series of online training modules.
- Attend a Zoom session.
Note: You must complete the online modules before attending the Zoom session.
Lab Safety Refresher - repeat once per year, starting 12 months after completion of Lab Safety Initial training.
BSL 2/3 Training is mandatory for anyone involved in research or projects that work with Select Agents, recombinant DNA, infectious agents (human, animal, or plant), tissues, body fluids, cultured cells, or medical waste management. Contact terry.tarbet@usu.edu for questions on exemptions.
BBP and BSL 2/3 are held in-person only.
EPA required training - Protects anyone working with or around agricultural pesticides. At USU, yearly training is required for students, staff, or faculty who may encounter pesticides or enter treated areas.
Pesticides include (but are not limited to): insecticides, herbicides, fungicides, rodenticides, miticides, and nematicides.

This blended learning course combines online and in-person instruction.
Registration is required at least 5 business days in advance.
Participants will receive a 2-year certification upon completion.
Note: Cost $40.00 per person.
HazCom training is required for employees in non-laboratory settings who may be exposed to hazardous chemicals. Learn safe handling, how to read labels and Safety Data Sheets (SDS), and follow workplace practices to stay OSHA-compliant.
This is an OSHA Hazard Communication Standard training requirement.
