Zoned & Watered, Jake Powell explains how policy shapes community

In part two of our episodes with Jake Powell, an environmental planner with USU’s Department of Landscape Architect and Environmental Planning, he describes how communities can build resilience on both an economical and social level. He delves into the exciting connections that can and should be made between policy makers, researchers, and residents to preserve watershed resources and community identity.

As small Utah towns change, Jake focuses on how towns and cities which have the potential to boom during amenity-migration, can use policy to protect their tightly held identities as they work to evolve and prevent future diminishment. Jake also talks about his work specifically regarding watershed management in communities and the tough decisions they need to make with growing populations and an expanding infrastructure.

Jake Powell and David Anderson (Episode 38) will be featured in an upcoming Research Landscapes event  “Finding our Sense of Place” on November 18, 2020 at 11:30 a.m. MST. You can RSVP to attend. And if you missed part one from Jake you can rewatch the episode.
