Horizons AI Project Example

This is intended to provide an example of the type of project, presentation and thinking that the Horizons competition is designed to encourage. It is not meant to act as a pro-forma or to be seen as exclusive in the way ideas are formed or presented for Horizons. It also represents a best case scenario especially in terms of the presentation.

Preliminary Information

Project Title

AI Ethics Chain - A Public Blockchain for AI Transparency

Challenge Addressed

Primary Challenge:

  • Ethical Standards for AI: Establishing and promoting ethical standards for AI training and use

Also addresses:

  • Assessing Future Impact: Developing frameworks to assess and predict the long-term societal impacts of AI technologies

Executive Summary

AI Ethics Chain creates a public record of AI systems' ethical evaluations using blockchain technology, starting with Utah's educational and healthcare institutions. This solution combines the transparency of blockchain with practical ethics evaluation tools, making AI systems' decision-making processes more accountable to the public.

Problem Statement

While AI systems increasingly make important decisions in public institutions, there's no transparent way to track their ethical compliance or decision-making patterns. Utah needs a system that builds public trust by making AI evaluation transparent and immutable.

Solution Overview

Three integrated components:

  1. Ethics Evaluation Framework: Standardized tests for bias, privacy, and transparency
  2. Public Blockchain Record: Immutable public record of AI evaluations and updates
  3. Public Interface: User-friendly website for viewing AI systems' ethical records
