Securing USU’s International Collaborations

There is growing concern, reflected in emerging federal policy, that foreign governments are using faculty, staff, and students at U.S. universities to exploit the open nature of US research and effectively steal research data and intellectual property.

As a USU staff, faculty, or student, you can secure your research by doing the following:

Know comment bubbles

Take steps to know your collaborators, who has access to your research, and any vulnerabilities around storing your data.

Train person with chalkboard

USU’s Research Security Training introduces the key considerations for safe international collaboraitons.

Refer to the Research Security Requirements by Federal Agency to see if this training is mandatory for your research.

Disclose file with pen

When you disclose all foreign interests and sources of support on your conflict of interest disclosure in Kuali, the Office of Research can identify and mitigate any possible research security risk.

You must also disclose participation in a foreign talent recruitment program and be aware that USU policy forbids participation in malign foreign talent recruitment programs.

Report File with a chart on the front

Report your university-related travel overseas by following USU’s Guidelines for International Travel.

When you are hosting foreign visitors at USU, have your visitors complete the International Visitors Form in Kuali Build.
